May - 4 June 2017
Opening Thursday
11th May h 18.00
"I would like to thanks right away and not at the end because it
all started from here.
The 50's were not long enough.
Thanks to the so-called Atomic Era. Worried for the planet's
destiny, the Americans reacted with a healthy fatalism. The result
conducted to a period of prosperity and serenity never seen before. As
well as the growth of fallout shelters in the garden.
Thanks to Comedy movies and the actress symbol of those years:
Doris Day, her 2 pieces suits and her pastel color coats.
Even though at that time my fiancé was Sandra Dee, who
unfortunately I had to share with millions of other American
teenagers.
Thanks to Rod Sterling who agitated my sleep with his "The
Twilight Zone " Thanks to the earlier science fiction's pioneers
and their Space Craft with visible thread.
Staying on the subject, thanks to the menace from other planets and
those years obsession for the arrival of the "martians"
Still waiting for…
Thanks to the cars as big as boats, at their curvy lines, and the
feast of lights and chromes.
Thanks to the "forbidden books" of my youth, to Grace
Metalious for her Peyton Place and to Sloan Wilson's A Summer Place
where for my greatest joy, in the movie's version, Sandra Dee was
actually the main actress.
Looking back at those summers, the music in the air, for me, was
nothing else but A Summer Place, thanks Percy Faith.
Thanks to the America of Norman Rockwell, to the suburbs, because
It's not only New York.
Thanks to black and white photography that made me discover the
poetry of shadows.
To all the Impressionists from whom I learned to paint with light.
To the Belgian comics with Michel Vaillant's cars and Buck Danny's
airplanes. And thanks to Gaston Lagaffe almost an Alter Ego.
Thanks to the Rat Pack. To Frank, Sammy and to Dean Martin's
"style". They were having fun while working, like no others
before.
And thanks to Edward Hopper who was able to make my dream comes
true: paint America.
Finally, thanks to all the examples and the advices that
fortunately, I had never followed."
